Watching the Today show is always an eye opener. Today they were talking about the shelf life of some of the make up we use. Some of them were a no -brain er...like mascara. But I was really surprised to hear that you lip gloss should be tossed after 3 months. Here are some of the products they mentioned.

lip gloss 3 months wands
lipsticks up to a year
lip pencils until they are gone
mascara 2-3 months
eyeshadow 1 year
foundation about a year, water based 6 months
wash your brushes every 2 weeks

New Year...New resolution!

I know that you have heard it before.......some of you made the same promise. This year...2010...I am going to cut way back on my beauty junkie addiction. I am going to use what I have and use it until it's gone. I promise. I have 10 (3.4 oz) high end fragrances, at least 5 full cleansers, never opened mascara, lipstick, eyeshadow, eyeliner and face powders. I cannot even begin to count the amount of anti aging products I have EVERYWHERE!!!! So I am going to start to use it all up! I am going to allow myself to purchase my foundation ...when I run out, and toner. My local beauty adviser's are probably going to starve and my sephora account might go inactive. I will just keep telling myself that I am a grown woman with self control and I CAN DO THIS!

Like any woman about to make a promise or resolution..I had to binge just a little. I broke down and ordered the Lancome beauty box that I have been lusting over the entire month of December! That should hold me until next year...I hope!

e.l.f. M.U.A.H. Party

On Friday I invited my friends and family over to my e.l.f. cosmetics M.U.A.H. party. We had so much fun. E.l.f. sent over 250 pieces of makeup including makeup from the mineral and studio lines. I divided the Makeup at the end of the night between my guests and they also went home with some nice makeup brushes. Overall the party was a hit. The eye shadows form the mineral line were every ones favorite. I will be posting some idividual swatches and product reviews in the next couple of weeks.

Here is my swatch of L'Absolu Rouge lipstick in Chris & Tell ! This is the Chris Benz Pout-a-Porter lipstick that will be out this February! The color is Amazing. Even though it is almost Winter....I have snuck this shade of lipstick on to my pale lips once or twice already. I don't know what it is about this lipstick, my eyes look brighter, teeth whiter, my makeup fresh and youthful! The top swatch is just one swipe with the tube. The bottom swatch is 3 swipes. my take.....

I have used these Two steps for 6 weeks now and my skin has completely transformed. Youthful is the word. I have to admit..I am a product junkie. This takes the fun out of my skincare routine, but it has been worth it.

Step one is the face and neck cleanser that you use with this "sham wow" type of cloth. It really does remove all of my makeup while exfoliating my skin at the same time!

Burt's Bees' natural Acne Solutions

About 3 weeks ago Bzz agent sent me 2 full size products of Burt's Bees' natural acne solutions. For those of you not familiar with bzz agent it is a
word-of-mouth (WOM) marketing network to try new products and spread word of mouth. You can sign up at http://www.bzzagent.com/ .
I was sent the purifying gel cleanser ( step 1) and the targeted spot treatment ( step 4). I started using these products immediately and here is what I think!

Step 1 Purifying Gel Cleanser

pros: smells amazing ( has a natural woodsy smell) and leaves my face squeaky clean

cons: very thin and liquid -y (very easy to pour too much out)

final thoughts: After using this cleanser for almost 3 weeks, I don't see one bit of difference. I was not expecting a blemish free face, but this has not done anything. I understand that this is a 4 step skin clearing regimen. I am just basing my opinion on the cleanser.

Step 4 Targeted Spot Treatment

pros: another great smelling product ( like black licorice)

cons: packaging...it is in a bottle very similar to a bath and body works home fragrance oil,

final thoughts: I had some pretty high hopes for this product as well. I applied this product on every blemish that appeared with not so great results. Burt's bees' says that it is clinically proven to reduce redness in 24 hours and reduce the size of blemish acne in just 48 hours. Well. again nothing for me. It actually made the area where I applied it itchy! Grr.

Maybe The products work best as a system. If that's the case then I should have been sent all four to try. Again, my opinion is just on those two products.

Final thoughts: I really like this cleanser because it gave me the feeling of a "deep down"clean. My face didn't feel dry or tight afterwards either. I am actually going to give this one a Full Size try! The price is $20 for 8 fl oz.

pros : rich, creamy but not thick, left my skin soft and moisturized, a little bit of product goes a long way.

cons : didn't easily absorb, felt too heavy for my combination skin, could still feel the product after 20 minutes.

Final thoughts : Even though this product says that it is for all skin types, I felt that it was way too heavy for my skin. I just felt as if my face could not breath after applying this moisturizer.

My skin did feel incredibly soft the next morning, I am just not willing to give this one another try! This was a thumbs down for me!

It does give me a rush...adding to my beauty collection. Here are some "priced just right" beauty products I picked up at http://www.victoriassecret.com/. I bought Sparkling Shadow in goldblinger ( bottom right), Liquid Glitter Liner in bronze ( middle line), Luminous Shadow in gold school ( bottom left) and Wet/Dry Shadow in hot ginger ( top left ) and espresso lane (top right). I got all 5 products for $20! They eyeshadow is really sheer when applied dry, so I like to use a wet brush with these. It gives you a much deeper color. I would also recommend using an eyeshadow base or primer as well. It will keep them on longer! The eyeliner in bronze will be cute for when I go out. It had an appropriate amount of glitter ( is there such a thing) without going overboard! The gold school (bottom left) and goldblinger ( bottom right) make really pretty highlighters for under you brow or right above your cheekbone. I think that at $4 a piece this is a great way to play with some trends or colors you might not have tried otherwise.

I absolutely love Quick eyes cream shadow from Clinique. I use it every single day under my eyeshadow as a primer and sometimes just as my eyeshadow. I go through this stuff like crazy. So tonight I was about to pitch 2 more empties when I had the urge to cut these babies open just to see how much I was throwing away. As you can see above, I got a good bit of product out of both "so called" empties. I think that I got enough in that little pot for 3 weeks. I will continue to buy this product because I love the colors and durability.....I just wish that Clinique could come up with a better package for it . I am going to start saving my little sample pots just in case I come across another product that feels a little full when I'm about to throw it away.

I am working my way through my beautyfix kit and I am finding some products that I love....and well...some, not so much. This is one of the "not so much" products. I had a very long day in the car yesterday driving to visit my brother in law. I spent 10 hours in the car round trip. So this was the perfect day to try SKINDINAVIA makeup finishing spray. After applying my makeup in the morning, I applied the spray to my face as directed. Shake..hold 8 inches from face...2-4 sprays. Did all of that. It's kinda weird spraying a liquid on your face after you do your makeup, but it did not run my makeup and dried rather quickly. I have to say that the only thing that stayed put all day was the eyeshadow I was wearing. By the end of our very long day, my blush was no more, imperfections were showing, and my lips were pale. With a price tag of $29 for 4 oz. , I thought that I would look just as good coming through my door as I did leaving. Sadly I did not. Maybe my expectations were too high, What do you gals think? Have you ever tried this spray? Is there a different brand that works better? Let me know!

What is it that makes these lip glosses so addicting. Is it the cute names like Puddin' Pie and Strawberry Fizz. Maybe it's how absolutely yummy these glosses smell !!! Whatever it is , all I know is that I have to have my Beauty Rush lip gloss with me at all times. I have more of these than I care to count and I can tell you I probably have one within reach at all times. They are in my handbags, vanity, bathroom closet, and in my car and yet I want more. When I was little I had a caboodle filled with bonnie bell lip glosses. I think that this is my grown up equivalent to those iconic little gems. Here are some products I am loving this week!

First up is JONATHAN redo freshen up mist for hair and skin. http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P104713&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5797 I have been using this product to freshen up my hair mid day and to calm any fly aways that happen towards the end of the day. It has an nice herbal scent and does just what it claims! Just a couple of spritzes and my hair is instantly fresher!

I am also loving CAROL'S DAUGHTER almond cookie body oil. This is usually one of my winter favs, but I put a little on my dry legs the other day and oh my...did they look GREAT!! What little tan I am able to get sure looked good with a little oil rubbed on them. The scent is like a sophisticated version of Jergens almond body lotion, and it's long lasting. Just remember...a little bit goes a long way in the summer.

Last up is CLINIQUE Youth Surge SPF 15 Age Decelerating Moisturizer for Combination Oily Skin. I love this stuff. Looks like a cream in the jar..acts like a lotion on my face. It's is very fast to absorb and makes my face soft ,silky and smooth. I have used this on the most humid of days and have never once felt that this was too heavy for my oily skin. Love this!!!

While searching the web for the best price on the Clarisonic , I stumbled upon the Pretika sonic dermabrasion facial brush. I can't brag enough about this amazing product. I am talking about NEW Turnaround Radiance Peel Once-A-Week System. This stuff really works. I am amazed at the great products I just received from BEAUTYFIX.com!!! I got 7 full size and 3 deluxe travel size products !

I already tried The ME! bath shower sherbet. It smells really yummy! The Degree body mist is something that I would have overlooked at the grocery store but I am so glad that beautyfix threw that one in there because it is really nice! The PUR-LISSE pur-lip comfort is lightweight and not sticky at all. That one might be my favorite right now. I am really excited to try the BLISS youth as we know it and SKINDINAVIA makeup finishing spray. My makeup is always off by the end of the day and this product promises to hold it on! I also got an AMAZING package from CLINIQUE this week to review . When they post the reviews online I'll post a pic of what I got. I can tell you I received 2 new products to test and some extras.
The extras were (full size) Quick Blush...(I love this stuff. Throw it in your bag and go),naturally glossy mascara, quick eyes cream shadow, and superbalm moisturizing gloss.

Review time!

First up is Vincent Longo water Canvas Highlighter ( aura passion). Let me start off by saying that this color was really nice, a deep rose, really flattering on my skin tone. I really liked how shimmery it was..I love sparkle, and the product was cool to the touch. Refreshing. Unfortunately for all that it had going for it...It was a miss! The product didn't wear long at all. I am talking not even 2 hours. The application was blotchy as well. I applied directly after my foundation and had to work to get it even looking. Bummer!

Next is Living Proof straight making styling spray. http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P231301&categoryId=C20510 WOW! I am hooked. This was obviously a hit. This spray left my hair silky and straight without the weigh-down. It's fast drying like a hair spray and it quickly absorbs, unlike serums or balms. This spray has left my hair looking amazing for a full 24 hours! Love it!!!!

I would really like to get my hands on a clarisonic http://www.clarisonic.com/. This thing looks amazing. I can never get rid of those ugly clogged pores and tend to break - out often. I read the reviews on www.sephora.com and I really think that the Clarisonic would do the trick!! Have any of you gals tried one of these? Is it worth every penny?
